Kantha & Khaees

Kantha is a centuries-old tradition of hand stitching intricate and artistic patterns using a simple running stitch. This meticulous process involves layering two to three pieces of discarded vintage fabric, transforming them into beautiful works of "recycled art." Each stitch in Kantha is more than just a thread; it is a symbolic representation of love and connection, crafted predominantly by the Hindu snake-charmers community from the Tharparkar region of Sindh. The resulting fabric tells stories of heritage and artistry, with each piece being as unique as the hands that created it.

Khaees, on the other hand, is a robust damask cotton cloth that originates from the Punjab region. This fabric is hand-woven with coarse cotton yarn, making it exceptionally thick and durable. Traditionally used for blankets and winter wraps, Khaees offers both warmth and a rich texture that is highly valued in artisanal creations.

At BulBul, we bring together the time-honored crafts of Kantha and Khaees to create our eclectic Bohemian Kimono jackets, vests, and Boleros. Each piece in our collection is a fusion of these two exquisite techniques, offering a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and contemporary style. The result is a garment that not only stands out for its beauty but also for its deep-rooted cultural significance.
